Understanding Malayalam ML-TT & Unicode Encodings
Before the widespread adoption of Unicode, Malayalam desktop publishing (DTP) relied on proprietary font sets like ML-TT Karthika, ML-TT Revathi, Indulekha, ISM, and Thoolika. These fonts remapped English ASCII keystrokes to Malayalam glyph shapes.
When text typed in ML-TT is shared via WhatsApp, Instagram, or opened in modern web browsers, it appears as random English characters (e.g. \akvImcw instead of നമസ്കാരം). This 2-way converter allows you to seamlessly restore legacy text to modern Unicode or generate legacy ML-TT strings for older PageMaker or Photoshop templates.
